Our "Representatives..."

The Jackson Free Press (while an incredibly respectable publication), is not the first place we check for news pertaining to Lafayette County. But a few very egregious happenings in our state's capital have lead us to send a sincere thanks toward them this week.

Congressman Alan Nunnelee (R-Tupelo) and State Senator Gray Tollison (R-Oxford) were both spotted by members of the Jackson Free Press this past week. And while we will not fault them for their visiting the capital (especially Senator Tollison, who had just finished his time legislative session that day), their actions are definitely reprehensible.

I encourage you to read through Donna Ladd's editor's note on the subject. There you'll find curious stories of stolen iPhones at a bar and enjoying an afternoon at a high-profile restaurant while claiming to be personally answering questions on a facebook page.

It's clear that neither of these representatives have their constituents' best interests at heart; with that in mind, why do we even call them "representatives?"

It's time for our wonderful district seats to be held by people looking out for us. Not themselves.
